Issah Mohammed Responds to Allegations Over Savannah NPP Regional Secretariat

Calls for Unity, Transparency and an End to Internal Mudslinging Following Regional Elections

Former Savannah Regional NPP Regional Secretary, Issah Mohammed, has responded to allegations circulating on social media concerning the Savannah Regional Party Secretariat, describing the claims that he removed computers, television sets, furniture, air conditioners and other items from the office as malicious, defamatory and deliberately misleading.

The allegations emerged shortly after the New Patriotic Party's recent Regional Elections, in which new regional executives were elected to steer the affairs of the Party in the Savannah Region.

In a detailed response, he said he had become aware of claims suggesting that several items belonging to the Regional Secretariat were missing and that he had personally removed virtually everything from the premises.

He strongly rejected the allegations and said he was compelled to respond because he did not want misinformation to be allowed to assume the character of truth.

Circumstances Surrounding the Secretariat

According to him, a few days after the August 15 Regional Elections, he visited the Regional Secretariat, as he had routinely done during his tenure.

He said upon arrival, he found the premises barricaded with rubber ropes and, without creating any confrontation, simply left.

He returned the following day and found the barricades still in place. He subsequently removed the rubber ropes himself before leaving the premises.

Mr. Mohammed further disclosed that he later learnt that enquiries had been made through his driver, the Secretariat's watchman and its administrator concerning certain items allegedly missing from the office.

He said he subsequently contacted the Chairman of the Regional Council of Elders, Alhaji Yakubu Zakaria, and gave him what he described as a detailed account of the circumstances surrounding the Secretariat and its contents.

He stated that after that engagement, he heard nothing further until the allegations resurfaced publicly through what he described as an unprovoked campaign against his person.

Claim of Personal Investment in the Secretariat

He maintains that the Secretariat, in its current form, was developed and substantially furnished through his personal salary and earnings.

According to him, neither the Regional Party nor the National Party contributed financially towards the restructuring and furnishing of the office.

He challenged anyone who believes otherwise to provide evidence showing that Party funds were used in the process.

He, however, indicated that he would not dwell extensively on the sacrifices and personal difficulties he endured in establishing and maintaining the facility, explaining that doing so could unnecessarily reopen old wounds within the Party.

Willingness to Hand Over the Secretariat

Despite the controversy, he says he has no intention of withholding the Secretariat from the New Patriotic Party.

He disclosed that he intends to hand over the facility to the Regional Party and has already engaged the current Regional Secretary, Mr. Ayuba Seidu, to facilitate an orderly, transparent and smooth transition.

According to him, the decision is one he has willingly taken in the supreme interest of the Party.

His position, therefore, is that the matter should be resolved through proper engagement and transparent processes rather than social media accusations and personal attacks.

A Call for Healing After the Elections

Beyond the allegations concerning the Secretariat, he used the opportunity to call for reconciliation within the Savannah Regional NPP following what was widely regarded as a competitive and sharply contested internal election.

He argued that the Party's immediate priority should be to heal wounds, rebuild trust and unite its members into a strong and effective opposition force.

He expressed concern about what he described as the use of anonymous or paid social media surrogates to attack individuals who have already accepted the outcome of the elections.

According to him, such tactics do little to advance reconciliation and instead risk deepening divisions within the Party.

He urged Party members to move beyond the election and give the newly elected Regional Executives the support necessary to succeed.

Commitment to the NPP Remains

Despite losing the recent internal contest, he insists that his commitment to the NPP remains unchanged.

He said his history with the Party, including years of service and personal sacrifices, cannot be erased by the outcome of one internal election.

He further stated that he intends to continue supporting the newly elected Regional Executives and contributing towards the rebuilding of a strong, united and formidable NPP in the Savannah Region and beyond.

He also expressed confidence in his cordial relationship with the current Regional Secretary, Mr. Ayuba Seidu, and said he trusts his judgement in handling issues that could potentially undermine Party unity.

A Message to Party Members

The former Regional Secretary's response ultimately carries a broader message: that the internal elections should mark the beginning of a new chapter rather than another phase of division.

While strongly rejecting the allegations against him, he has also indicated his willingness to facilitate a peaceful transition and work with the new leadership in the interest of the Party.

As the NPP reorganises itself in the Savannah Region, the challenge before its members is now to transform the competitive spirit that characterised the elections into collective energy for rebuilding the Party.

For him, losing an internal election does not diminish his contribution to the Party or his determination to continue serving it.
