POLITICAL DIFFERENCES MUST NEVER BE SETTLED WITH VIOLENCE

Reports emerging from Tamale regarding the alleged assault of social media commentator Alhaji Brony by one NDC loyalist popularly known as Fuzzy JJ Rawlings are deeply troubling and deserve the attention of all peace-loving Gonjalanders. This allegations alone raise serious concerns that should not be taken lightly.

According to reports circulating on social media, Fuzzy JJ Rawlings allegedly assaulted Alhaji Brony, who is widely known on TikTok for his support of Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor, the member of parliament for Damongo constituency and for often expressing opinions that differ from those of  NDC communicators, especially that if the MD for GWCL Hon. Adam Muntawakilu alias Garlus. If these allegations are found to be true, then such conduct must be unequivocally condemned by all, irrespective of our political affiliation.

Political discourse thrives on the free exchange of ideas, opinions, and viewpoints. In a democratic society, disagreement is normal and expected. However, when disagreements allegedly degenerate into physical confrontation, it threatens the very foundations of democratic engagement and peaceful coexistence.

What is even more concerning is the justification being offered by some individuals simply because they share political sympathies with the person accused. Such reasoning is dangerous and unacceptable. Communicators are not infallible. They are capable of making mistakes, and their views are open to criticism and challenge just like anyone else's. If every individual who feels offended by criticism or opposing views chooses violence as a means of settling scores, our political space would quickly descend into chaos and lawlessness.

Many of those attempting to defend this alleged conduct should pause and consider the precedent they are endorsing. Today, the victim may be someone whose views they disagree with. Tomorrow, it could be one of their own. If violence becomes an accepted response to political disagreement, no communicator, activist, journalist, or ordinary citizen will be safe from intimidation.

The proper response to disagreement is dialogue, rebuttal, lawful complaint, or simply ignoring the provocation not violence.

Political power is temporary. Governments change, political fortunes shift, and individuals who feel untouchable today may find themselves accountable tomorrow. This is precisely why respect for the rule of law must remain constant regardless of which party occupies the seat of government.
