S/R: Welcome Home, Mr. President: The Expectations and Concerns.
Dear Mr. President,
It is with great respect, humility, and admiration that I warmly welcome you, as part of your visit to the Savannah Region.
Your Excellency John Dramani Mahama, beyond your high office as President of the Republic of Ghana, we the people of Savannah also see you as one of our own.
Mr. President, I write this letter with utmost sincerity, respect, and patriotic concern for the development of our beloved Savannah Region. My intention is not to criticize for the sake of criticism, but rather to respectfully draw your attention to some important concerns which many citizens believe deserve urgent consideration during your tenure.
Indeed, many people across Savannah Region voted with the strong belief that your administration would prioritize neglected communities and accelerate development within the region.
Mr. President, while I appreciate and welcome your visit to the Savannah Region, I have observed that official engagements often continue to be dominated by broad assurances and future-oriented expressions such as “the region will get,” “government intends to,” “plans are underway,” and “the region is to benefit.”
Respectfully, Your Excellency, the people are increasingly yearning for something more concrete like definite timelines, implementation schedules, and visible action that can be confidently followed and monitored.
Mr. President, as a proud citizen of North Gonja District, I feel personally compelled to respectfully raise concerns regarding the apparent abandonment of work on the Agenda 111 hospital project in Daboya.
I raise this concern because North Gonja is my home district, and I understand firsthand the healthcare challenges confronting our people.
To many residents, that hospital project represented not just infrastructure, but dignity, relief, and a brighter future for healthcare delivery within the district.
Today, however, many citizens are deeply worried by the visible inactivity surrounding this project.
Mr. President, the people of North Gonja respectfully seek clarity:
When will work fully resume?
What timelines exist for completion?
And what assurances can government provide regarding the future of these important project?
Your Excellency, pregnant women, accident victims, children, and vulnerable families continue to face enormous difficulties in accessing quality healthcare. Completing this hospital would significantly improve the lives of thousands of people.
Mr. President, I also wish to respectfully bring to your attention to the infrastructural challenges confronting Larabanga Islamic Senior High School.
I raise this issue not only as a citizen, but also as a teacher who deeply appreciates the transformative power of education in shaping communities and empowering future generations.
Your Excellency, as an infant institution, the school urgently requires substantial infrastructural support to survive and grow effectively.
Mr. President, many residents are struggling to understand why already established senior high schools within the Savannah Region continue to receive significant infrastructural projects while Larabanga Islamic SHS, a newly established school with serious infrastructural deficits appears to be receiving limited attention.
Respectfully, Your Excellency, infant schools naturally deserve greater foundational investment because they are still struggling to establish the basic systems necessary for effective teaching and learning.
The school urgently requires:
Staff accommodation,
Dinning Hall,
Furniture,
Laboratories,
ICT facilities,
Libraries,
Assembly Hall,
Water systems,
And an improved learning environment.
As a teacher, I hold the firm believe that investing in education is one of the most sustainable ways of reducing poverty, empowering communities, and promoting long-term national development. Supporting Larabanga Islamic SHS today would not only benefit the Larabanga community, but would also strengthen educational access and human capital development that enclave and the Savannah Region as a whole.
It is therefore my humble appeal that government prioritizes the infrastructural needs of Larabanga Islamic SHS and ensures that the school receives the necessary support required to survive and grow into a strong educational institution for the benefit of all.
May your engagement with the people renew hope, strengthen confidence, and reaffirm government’s commitment to the development of North Gonja District and the Savannah Region.
You are warmly welcome home, Mr. President.
May Allah continue to grant you wisdom, strength, and good health as you steer the affairs of our dear nation.
Yours faithfully,
Habib Mandeya Abukari
A Concerned Citizen
