S/R: THE SILENT REVOLT OF NDC YOUTH IN DAMONGO.

The unfolding twist within the NDC grassroots in the Damongo Constituency is both striking and politically significant. Over the years, the NDC’s popularity in Damongo grew tremendously, particularly after the party introduced John Dramani Mahama as running mate to the late John Evans Atta Mills Since then, a strong political sentiment has taken root among many residents most especially among the Gonja people and that any Gonja who refuses to support John Mahama and the NDC is being ungrateful.

This long-standing belief fueled deep loyalty among the youth, many of whom invested their hopes and ambitions in the party, convinced that the NDC alone held the key to transforming the constituency and improving their future.

However, now that the party has returned to power, a new reality appears to be setting in. Many young people in Damongo are increasingly voicing frustration over unemployment and the lack of meaningful livelihood opportunities. Their expectations for jobs and economic empowerment seem far from being met, creating growing disappointment among the very grassroots that once championed the party with unwavering enthusiasm.

This discontent was reportedly evident during the recent visit of the President to Damongo, where the Savannah Region witnessed a surprisingly low turnout among the youth. Reports suggest that even the Regional Minister had to personally appeal to some young people to attend the event, only to be met with complaints that the party has failed them woefully despite its lofty campaign promises, such as the 24-hour economy initiative and the proposed Women’s Development Bank.

The situation raises an important political question, Has the unwavering loyalty of the NDC grassroots in Damongo begun to give way to frustration and political awakening? If the concerns of the youth are not addressed urgently, the party may face a difficult challenge in sustaining the trust and enthusiasm that once made Damongo one of its strongest political strongholds.
