S/R: Savannah Regional Minister Leads Delegation to Turkish Embassy to Foster Development Cooperation




In a bid to deepen international ties and accelerate development in the Savannah Region, the Honourable Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salifu Be-Awuribe, has led a high-powered delegation to the Turkish Embassy in Accra. The delegation included all District Chief Executives (DCEs) from the region, signaling a united front in the pursuit of strategic partnerships for regional growth.

The visit, which forms part of a broader diplomatic outreach programme, focused on exploring avenues for bilateral cooperation between the Savannah Region and the Government of Turkey. Key areas discussed during the courtesy call included agriculture, education, tourism, health, water, and sanitation—sectors that are pivotal to the region’s development agenda.

A notable highlight of the meeting was the proposal to establish sister-city relationships between selected communities in the Savannah Region and cities in Turkey. This initiative is expected to foster cultural exchange, deepen people-to-people diplomacy, and attract technical and developmental assistance to the region.



Hon. Be-Awuribe expressed optimism about the prospects of the collaboration, stating that the Turkish Embassy’s openness to cooperation demonstrates the growing recognition of the Savannah Region’s development potential.

The visit to the Turkish Embassy marks the beginning of a week-long series of diplomatic engagements with other foreign missions. The initiative forms part of the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council’s efforts to leverage international partnerships to drive sustainable development and create new investment opportunities across the region.



As the Savannah Region positions itself as a hub for socio-economic transformation, such international engagements are expected to play a key role in unlocking its vast potential and improving the lives of its people.

  The people of Daboya are suffering through prolonged electricity outages, plunging our once thriving community into darkness. It's disheartening to see our government and leaders seemingly indifferent to this crisis. We recall the past 8 years of stability under NPP rule, where Daboya enjoyed uninterrupted electricity. The previous administration extended electricity to over 30 communities in North Gonja District, including townships extension in Daboya and Linguishe, were commendable. However, in less than 4 months of this new government's tenure, Daboya has lost its reliable electricity supply. Local businesses are struggling, the Coldstore is non-operational, and residents live in fear after dark.
