Was the Just Ended Pro-VC elections free and fair at UEW?
The Just Ended Pro-VC elections at UEW were fraught with unfair treatment to other candidates for the following reasons:
1. The Vice-Chancellor (Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual) we learned informed Prof. Esther Danso-Wiredu at least two weeks before the official announcement of the nomination while the other candidates were informed just the day the names of nominees were released. Is this right for UEW.
2. Prof. Esther Danso-Wiredu campaigned with the VC'S name that he was solidly behind her to win the Pro-VC election for almost three weeks without a rebuttal from the Vice-Chancellor. Mr. VC, you didn't know of this?
3. This claim was boldly posted on the UTAG WhatsApp platform by one Mr. Wilson Dabou that the VC was Esther's candidate, and therefore, Convocation Members should cast their votes in line with the VC'S candidate What did the VC do? He merely instructed Mr. Wilson Dabou(a lecturer in the Department of History who is a member of Prof. Esther's campaign team to go and delete the posting. This he grossly refused to carry the VC'S directive. He tersely wrote something on the UTAG WhatsApp platform after the election. What did you do, Mr. Vice-Chancellor ?
4. The UTAG president and two of his executives (Vice President and the General Secretary)were compromised in the whole election process. They exhibited hypocrisy at the highest order. They don't deserve to be in leadership. It is a shame .
5. A candidate, was tagged as a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and was attacked, insulted, and denigrated by the likes of Devine Okyere-Wusu, Wilson Dabou, Stephen Osei-Akyiaw(the UTAG president) . Ironically, these are people whose academic credentials cannot be matched with that of the other candidates. They are PhD. students. Will this promote unity in UEW? Juniors can just insult professors at will. Who is the chief disciplinarian in a university?
6. In any serious academic institution, either the VC will have resigned by now, or the elections will have to be annulled, or fresh elections conducted.
7. UEW needs peace, and we should learn how to treat all individuals fairly. Mr. VC, your image is battered. I believe the professors are not talking because they least expected you to support one candidate against the others.
Long Live UEW, Long Live Ghana
