Discrimination and Illegal Practices by NDC in Damongo Constituency: Fulbe Community Speaks Out
Just some few days ago, it came to public attention that the former Member of Parliament and current parliamentary candidate for the NDC in Damongo has made alarming statements regarding voter registration. He declared that the NDC would physically prevent potential voters from registering if they (the NDC) deemed them unqualified. Despite repeated warnings and appeals from stakeholders advising the NDC against such illegal actions, the party appears to be ignoring these calls for a lawful and smooth registration process in Damongo.
Following the directives of their parliamentary candidate, the NDC has started targeting members of the Fulbe community, preventing them from accessing registration centers. This blatant discrimination has prompted the leadership of the Fulbe community to appeal to the NDC. However, the NDC has continued to flagrantly violate the constitutional rights of these individuals.
On the most widely listened to radio station in the Savannah Region, the Fulbe community publicly accused the NDC in the Damongo constituency of engaging in pure discrimination. They highlighted instances where an NDC-branded pick-up truck transported Fulbe community members to registration centers without any resistance from the NPP. Conversely, whenever an NPP-branded pick-up attempted to do the same, the NDC obstructed the registration process for these individuals.
The Fulbe community expressed their frustration and disappointment with the NDC in Damongo, condemning the party's lawless actions. During the radio interview, they seized the opportunity to call for patience and unity among all parties. They also urged the NDC to cease its unlawful behavior and allow all eligible members of the Fulbe community to register without further interference.
They also seized the opportunity to appeal to the chiefs and people of Damongo to come to their aid. They emphasised on the fact that the reasons espoused by the NDC for denying them the opportunity to exercise their fundamental human right is not an issue to be of concern.
This situation underscores the need for all political parties to respect the rule of law and uphold the constitutional rights of every citizen. The actions of the NDC in Damongo not only undermine the integrity of the electoral process but also violate the fundamental principles of democracy and equality.
